Aqua therapy

  This topic deserves its own post since there is so many benefits for those with ataxia. I am lucky to have a therapy pool here at home.  Lots of Ys and other facilities have pools.  Disabled transport can take you if you don’t drive. Safety:  I can’t stand on land but I start every aqua workout with a run. If you fall in water, you won’t break anything. Strength:  you can do major strength training in the water.  Same advice here as in Exercise.  If you can’t afford weights, there are many inexpensive alternatives.  Empty water bottles substitute for foam weights.  Full water bottles or soup cans can substitute for weights.  No excuses!  Post: Burning calories:  one of the difficulties with ataxia is weight control.  Burning calories in the water is  one way to deal with that.  And although you may not be in a wheelchair now, you may have one in your future.  Less weight to transfer is a good thing.
